Send alerts into a Slack channel so your team sees a screen going offline as it happens. Each message has a bold title, the details and an Open in dashboard link.

Before you start:

  • You need the admin or owner role in CompleteVantage.
  • In Slack, you need permission to add apps to your workspace. Some workspaces need an admin to approve new apps.

Step 1: create an incoming webhook in Slack

  1. Go to api.slack.com/apps and sign in to your workspace.
  2. Select Create New App, then From scratch.
  3. Name it, for example "Screen alerts", pick your workspace and select Create App.
  4. Under Features, select Incoming Webhooks and turn Activate Incoming Webhooks on.
  5. Select Add New Webhook to Workspace.
  6. Choose the channel for alerts, such as #screens, and select Allow.
  7. Copy the Webhook URL. It starts with https://hooks.slack.com/.

Step 2: add it in CompleteVantage

  1. In CompleteVantage, select Settings in the menu.
  2. In the Alerts panel, select Add alert destination.
  3. Choose Slack.
  4. In Name, type the channel name, such as "#screens".
  5. Paste the URL into Webhook address.
  6. Under Alert me when, tick the events you want.
  7. Select Save, then Send test.

Troubleshooting

"Webhook answered 404: no_team" or "channel_not_found". The app was removed, or the channel was archived or deleted. Add a new webhook in the Slack app settings and paste the new URL.

"Webhook answered 403". The webhook was revoked, often by a workspace admin. Ask them to reinstall the app.
