Networks drop. CompleteVantage screens keep a copy of everything they need, so they carry on playing when the connection goes, and catch up when it comes back.
What keeps working offline
- Images, videos, PDFs and presentations you uploaded. Each screen downloads them ahead of time.
- Playlists and layouts, including text, clocks, shapes, logos, menus, countdowns and QR codes.
- Schedules. The screen follows them in its own timezone without asking CompleteVantage.
- Show from and show until dates on media and playlist items. Expired items drop out on time, even offline.
- Display hours. The screen still turns off and on at the right times.
- Proof of play. The screen notes every play and sends them when it reconnects, so reports stay complete.
- Starting up. A box can even restart while offline and go straight back to your content.
What needs internet
- Web pages and dashboards. They load live from their own websites.
- YouTube videos and live streams.
- The weather widget. It shows the last forecast it fetched for a while.
- Tickers with RSS headlines need internet to fetch headlines.
- Calendar widgets keep showing the last events they received, but won't pick up new bookings.
- Changes you make. New content, broadcasts and remote actions reach the screen when it reconnects.
What you'll see
On the TV, a small Offline, showing saved content badge appears while the screen can't reach CompleteVantage. It disappears when the connection is back.
In the dashboard, the screen shows as Not responding, then Offline after 5 minutes. See Screen status.
When it reconnects
The screen checks in, fetches anything that changed, sends its stored plays and carries on. There's nothing for you to do.
Browser players
A web browser can only keep an offline copy when your CompleteVantage address starts with https://. On a plain http:// address, a browser player goes blank if it loses the connection while restarting. The Android app works offline either way. See Use a web browser as a player.
Broadcasts sent while a screen is offline
A broadcast reaches an offline screen when it reconnects, if the broadcast is still running. Screens that are offline during an emergency won't show your message, so don't rely on screens alone for safety alerts.
